GROOVE TECH SERVICES
A pre-spacing tape and TPM's (Temporary Pavement Markers) are applied to the road surface over the existing road markings that are to be protected from chip seal resurfacing. After the seal-coat is applied, the TPM's along with the pre-spacing tape, oil, and rock are located and removed. At this point the road markings are revealed in their original condition. This process eliminates the expense to remove markings before seal-coat, as well as the cost to replace markings after seal coating. In addition, the original road markings are now safely recessed below the new road surface.
By taking advantage of recessed groove's formed from seal-coat masking, permanent pavement markings are applied directly to the original road surface. Designated lines and symbols, to be replaced with the markings, are typically previously marked to simplify seal-coat masking. Once the new road surface is swept clean, pavement markings are inlayed into the preformed locations. The markings are now recessed into the pavement ensuring maximum longevity.
With the use of hand held and ride on diamond blade milling machines, grooves are formed in the road surface to allow the pavement markings to be recessed into the road. The durable bond formed between the markings and the road ensures that moisture will not effect the performance of these products. Further more, plows are unable to make contact with the markings due to the recessed installation.
During formation of bituminous (asphalt) roads, polymer tape is embedded into the road surface. This is accomplished by rolling pavement markings into the asphalt at specific temperatures, based on the polymer tape and mix being used. This process allows access to new pavement immediately following the completion of the bituminous installation.
